About Calligraphic Works

Deirdre Hassed trained in Calligraphy and Bookbinding at Roehampton Institute London from 1986–87. Since 1988 she has operated a professional calligraphy studio in both Australia and New Zealand.

Over the years, Deirdre has continued to study with many international scribes at lettering symposia in the UK, Belgium, Australia and New Zealand.

Drawing on both the traditional and contemporary techniques of the scribe, Deirdre’s life-long interest in Eastern and Western philosophy provides a rich reservoir of meaningful texts which she brings to life in her calligraphic works. Her strawbale studio provides a tranquil and contemplative space that inspires the creative flow as the words take shape on the page.

Many of the calligraphic images represented on this website are pieces that have been exhibited recently both in Australia and in the United Kingdom.
